Jude Mathurine is a journalism and new media lecturer, scholar, and undergraduate coordinator in the Department of Media and Communication at Nelson Mandela University. He previously served as Senior Lecturer and Head of the Journalism Programme at Cape Peninsula University of Technology, and has also taught at Rhodes University’s School of Journalism and Media Studies as well as the former Technikon Natal. With a background spanning media education, advocacy, and development, Jude has contributed to numerous book chapters, conference papers, and research projects. His work explores themes such as the changing nature of journalism and media work, digital pedagogy, South Africa’s print media landscape, media sustainability, and convergence. As a public intellectual, Jude has led workshops and research initiatives in partnership with media organisations across Southern Africa. He currently serves as the Eastern Cape co-convenor of the South African National Editors’ Forum. His latest UCDP-funded initiative, Khulani!, is a youth journalism hub that leverages generative AI to support ethical, professional training in human–AI collaboration.
